My Approach

I'm Asma Sharif, a BACP-registered counsellor (Registered Member 392224, MBACP) working person-centredly. My therapeutic approach centres on the relationship between us as the vehicle for healing and growth — I'm not here to diagnose, direct, or tell you what your experience should mean. My role is to offer genuine understanding, warmth, and a space where you can be fully heard, often for the first time.

I bring active listening skills and work to build a relationship of trust and respect with every client, offering empathic understanding rather than judgment. I believe people already hold the resources they need to grow — sometimes what's missing is simply a relationship where that growth feels safe.

Who I Work With

I've worked with clients from diverse socio-economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, aged between 17 and 70, on a wide range of concerns including anxiety, loneliness, bereavement, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship breakdown.

Experience

I qualified as a therapeutic counsellor in October 2021, completing a two-year CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I completed 100 hours of client work on placement with CCAWS (Community Care and Wellbeing Service), a mental health charity, and now work there as a counsellor, with over 200 hours of post-qualification client work to date. Since 2021, this has included:

  • Individual counselling assessments and one-to-one sessions
  • Faith and culturally sensitive counselling for clients from minority ethnic backgrounds, as part of the BAME Bereavement Project
  • Specialist bereavement support as a Grief Support Project Worker
  • Designing and delivering mental health and wellbeing workshops within local communities
  • Facilitating a monthly women's wellbeing group in collaboration with local communities
  • Liaising with local organisations to co-produce mental health awareness events

This community-rooted background shapes how I work — with real sensitivity to culture, faith, and the lived context each person brings into the room.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB) — Coleg y Cymoedd (2021)
  • NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills — Redbridge Institute of Further Education (2018)
  • NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills — Redbridge Institute of Further Education (2017)

I'm a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), work within the BACP Ethical Framework, hold professional indemnity insurance as an individual practitioner, and attend regular clinical supervision — all standard requirements for practising ethically and safely. I understand professional boundaries and confidentiality, and have knowledge of and the ability to implement legislation relating to equality, safeguarding, and privacy.
